Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery

Surgery & medical treatment for diseases of liver, gall bladder, pancreas & spleen. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the most commonly performed operation in our unit. Besides that CBD explorations, cystogastrostomy, cystojejunostomy, pancreatectomies, longitudinal pancreatojejunostomy, select liver resections and splenectomies are regularly performed.

Liver: Abscess [Amoebic/ pyogenic]: Percutaneous drainage, aspiration, pigtail catheter insertion, open surgical drainage with peritoneal toilet

Hydatid cyst of liver: Enucleations, percutaneous aspiration (PAIR), laparoscopic surgery for hydatid.

Liver tumors: Liver resections

Liver trauma: Conservative management, damage controll surgery with packing, open surgical heamostasis, Resection

Gall bladder & Common bile ducts:

Gall stones/ CBD stones/ acute cholecystitis/ chronic cholecystitis:Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, Laparoscopic partial cholecystectomy, open cholecystectomy, partial cholecystectomy, CBD explorations, Roux en Y- Hepaticojejunostomy

Biliary injuries [after open or laparoscopic surgery]: Roux en Y hepaticojejunostomy

Choledochal cyst: Cyst excision with Roux en Y hepaticojejunostomy

Cancer gallbladder: Radical cholecystectomy with segment 4b & 5 resection, palliative bypass, hepaticojejunostomy

Cholangiocarcinoma: Hilar cholangiocarcinoma- Excision with hepaticojejunostomy; Distal cholangiocarcinoma - Pancreatodudenectomy

Pancreas:

Acute pancreatitis: conservative management, necrosectomy, selective drain insertions

Pseudocyst pancreas: Cysto enterostomy, laparoscopic cystogastrostomy.

Chronic pancreatitis: Longitudinal pancreatojejunostomy

Periampullary cancers/ Cystic neoplasm of pancreas: Whipple’s pancreatodudenectomy, palliative triple bypass , distal pancreatectomy.

Cancer body of Pancreas: Distal Pancreatectomy with or without splenectomy.

Pancreatic injuries: Conservative management, open explorations with heamostasis, distal pancreatectomy, drains insertions.

Spleen:

Hemolytic anemia[heredity spherocytosis]: splenectomy

Thalassemia: Splenectomy

Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura:Splenectomy

Hyperspleenism: Spleenectomy

Spleenic injuries: splenorrhaphy, splenectomy.

Spleenic cysts: Marsupialization/ partial splenectomy

Spleenic tumors: Splenectomy
